To address an issue that several riders and Licensed Officials have
asked me about:
International Horse Sport, using a clause in GR308(g) "...National classes held in conjunction with a CDI are exempted from the mileage rule....", was issued a license by the USEF for another dressage show to run concurrently with WBTWF II & III. There are normally strict protective rules and a 75-miles buffer radius, but they allowed an overlying show within 1 mile. This show is licensed to run in the Equestrian Estates Horse Park (Derby grounds) on the same weekend. While this is strongly against the USEF's own general principles of fair licensing and health of the Sport, their rules do allow for it.
We ask that if you are not in need of a CDI that weekend to please come and continue to support the White Fences shows. As always, there will be free food and drinks to try to bribe you over =) If you are in need of a CDI, please consider one of the other CDI shows in season hosted by Gold Coast (Jan 20-23), Wellington Classic (Feb 10-13), the Palm Beach Dressage Derby (March 3-6), or Wellington Classic (March 11-13) which we fully support as important international level competitions, even though run by other show companies.
We cannot, however, support a show that is attempting to kill off the existence of another showgrounds by having a license issued over a previously-existing show series. It is outside the respectful practices of the industry and is unethical. We believe that a healthy Dressage show community is formed by the availability of options in show venue, management, size, and format- not a monopolistic takeover, as is the case with Wellington Classic Dressage, Gold Coast Dressage, and now The Palm Beach Dressage Derby, and International Horse Sport all being run by the same president/management. A monopoly loses all forms of checks and balances and price control and the consumer, in this case the rider, is the one who loses in the end.
We hope that certain things- such as no haul-in/walk-in fee (general savings of $50 per day) and free food and drinks (generally $20 per day at show)- make our shows both fun and affordable. White Fences Equestrian Center fully intends on supporting a healthy Dressage community and its legacy of being the "first" for so many riders and horses by continuing to run shows as another choice of venue and management. We hope that we can continue to support you, by you continuing to support us. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email me at WhiteFencesFL@gmail.com -Adam Pollak
